The Magic of the Icelandic Horse
Born of fire and ice, the Icelandic horse is one of the oldest and purest breeds in the world. Despite their pony-like stature, they are incredibly strong, capable of carrying adults across the most challenging terrain with ease.
What truly sets them apart is their genetic predisposition for five distinct gaits. Beyond the standard walk, trot, and canter, they possess the tölt and the flying pace, offering a ride so smooth it must be felt to be believed.

The Walk
A steady, four-beat foundation gait.

Raised Naturally, Trained Classically
At Saddle & Sylvan, we respect the natural maturation cycle of the Icelandic horse. They are slow to develop, and we do not begin formal under-saddle work until they are five years old, ensuring their bones and minds are ready for the task.
Our training approach combines traditional Icelandic techniques with classical dressage principles. The result is a horse that is light in the hand, responsive to the seat, and mentally balanced.
